KINGSDOWN PROVES A TOUGH CHALLENGE FOR THE SPRING MEETING

Although the sun shone all day, strong winds made Kingsdown a tough challenge for competitors in the County Spring meeting.  Considering the dry weather, the course was in fantastic condition, especially the greens, but a combination of the wind and a few enlarged bunkers around the course meant the scores were generally higher than usual.

Nevertheless, a few competitors coped very well with the difficult conditions and the Scratch Cup was won by ex-County Champion, Sue Sutton, from Ogbourne Downs, with a gross 84.  Sue also won the Kennard Cup for the best combined scratch scores from the County Championship and the Spring meeting - with a total of 243 for the three rounds.  Well Done, Sue!   Wrag Barn's, Gill Loughrey, was runner-up in the Scratch Cup with 85.

Winner of the Handicap Cup in Division 1 was Kingsdown's, Fiona Farrow, with a nett 72.  Trudi Feltham, also from Kingsdown, was runner-up with nett 74.

In Division 2, Jo Batt - from Kingsdown - took the Dorothy Dykes Scratch Cup and also the Taunton Handicap Cup with a gross 92, nett 70.

Runners-up in Division 2 were Gil Newton (West Wilts) in the Dorothy Dykes Scratch Cup and Chris Marshall (Chippenham) in the Taunton Handicap Cup.

Kingsdown won the Peggy MacKenzie Trophy for the best nett scores from Division 1 and Division 2 players.  Obviously, local knowledge counted for something on the day!
