New Chartex Competition Get its First Winner Hot on the heels of her victory at the County Championships, 13 year old Hannah Turland, from Tidworth Garrison Golf Club, has added another trophy to her growing collection. With another impressive performance, she beat Tidworth club-mate, Di Gritt, in the final of the Winter Scratch Knock-Out competition at Chippenham on Saturday to become the first player to have her name engraved on this brand new trophy.
After the match, Di said she was as impressed with Hannah's performance as those who were watching. She added, " It's ironic to think that, only four years ago, I was the one who marked Hannah's first card for handicap!" The new Winter Knock-Out Scratch and Handicap competitions, sponsored by Chartex Products International Limited, were introduced last year to give players of all abilities the chance to play competitive golf throughout the winter. The Handicap Knock Out competition, which runs parallel with the Scratch, was won by Ros Thomson from Kingsdown Golf Club. Chic Carvell, managing director of Chartex, was delighted with the support the competitions received in their first winter and hopes that they will grow into prestigious County competitions with more players from across the County taking part. He says, "I hope these competitions will play a key part in developing women's golf in Wiltshire, producing many more players at this high standard". Chic himself has been playing golf since he was 10 years old and his daughter, Sarah, is also a single-figure County player. Hannah and
Di, both members of the Wiltshire Ladies County first team, will now be
preparing for their next challenge when they face the best golfers from
other five counties at the South West Inter County Match Week. This is
a five day event to be held at Dudsbury Golf Club in Dorset from 12 to
16 May. |
