1910 - 2010 .... IT'S OUR CENTENARY! In 2010, the Wiltshire Ladies County Golf Association celebrates its Centenary. 100 years ago, in 1910 our association started with a meeting at the Golf Pavilion, Warminster, which is now West Wilts Golf Club. Four ladies from West Wilts and South Wilts were present. It was decided to try to form a Wiltshire County Ladies' Golf Club. A Captain, an Hon. Secretary and a Treasurer were all elected. The County comprised of the following Clubs: West Wilts, Devizes, Swindon, South Wilts and Marlborough. In the years 1911-1914 there were 14-16 players playing in the County meetings. In 1913, the treasurer showed a balance of £7.0s.9d in the accounts. Many things have happened in the last 100 years - too many to list here - but you will be able to read all about it in a special Centenary Book being produced.. CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS We are introducing
a new Competition this year. County President, Phoebe Lumley is donating
a trophy for a Centenary Foursomes competition, with two ladies qualifying
in each club to play in the final at North Wilts Golf Club on August 11th.
This competition will continue in future years. The County will be hosting a Centenary lunch at West Wilts on October 20th 2010 with invited guests. The special speaker on that day will be Kitrina Douglas. A Centenary Book will be available for sale later in the year. Thank you to all those, who have and are supplying items for this. If you have not done so already - please, we need something from each club, even the new ones! A Centenary plate has been designed and one will be given to each of our Golf Clubs, at the Captain's lunch in February 2010. Also, we will be selling special mementoes at all the County events. This will be a special celebration of the last 100 years of ladies' golf in Wiltshire. We do hope that everyone will enter into the spirit of the occasion. |
