The Road to Rio for Kyra

This month's half-term break will be extra special for 13-year-old Kyra Horlock, one of Wiltshire's rising young golfing stars. Kyra is off to Rio de Janeiro to compete in the Grand Final of the Faldo Series. To qualify for the final, she won the Under-16s category in the regional heat of the UK Championship at the Vale of Glamorgan in August, four shots clear of her nearest rival at the end of the two-round competition.

Kyra, who plays her golf at Hamptworth and Broadstone, has reduced her handicap to 3 this year and came third in her age group in the English Girls' Championships at The Wiltshire in July.

The trip to Brazil will be a once in a lifetime experience. Her mum, Jacqui, who is going with her to Rio, said, "She is a bit nervous but very excited! She is looking forward to meeting Nick Faldo and is hoping to do well in the final."
