Wiltshire has been chosen as one of three counties to pilot a new England/County golf coaching programme for girls in 2006 /2007. The joint venture means an investment of some £5000 in girls in the county that show the potential to be top county and national golfers of the future.

Thirteen girls from across the county have been selected for the new England County Birdies squad, for girls aged around 10 to 13, and for the more advanced 'Eagles' squad for older girls up to around 18. Full Details

Marlborough's Emma Breen has won the Most Improved Girl Golfer of 2006 award. Emma, who ha reduced her handicap to 6, won the Wiltshire Girls County Championship and was Wiltshire's top qualifier in the English Girls. Emma is also the new Wiltshire Girls Captain for 2007.

Sarah Waugh from Tidworth was gross winner of the County Captain's prize with a gross 72 and received her trophy from Sue Dix at the AGM. Silver division winner was Daphne Duxberry of High Post and Hamptworth's June Haslam won the Bronze Division prize.

Eight year old Alex Fetham from Kingsdown and 19 year old Claire Hobbs from Cumberwell were both first prize winners in our latest Adult and Girl Greensome held at North Wilts on 26 October. Three-handicapper, Claire, partnered by Colin Gritt, scored 32 points in the handicap division while Alex and mum, Trudy, scored 28 points in the 10-hole competition for non-handicap girls.
The next Adult & Junior Competition will be at High Post on 4 January 2007.

Jo Shorrocks and Sally Huffam from Hamptworth were the winners of the County Foursomes Championships held at Hamptworth Golf & Country Club on 20 September with a gross 75. Runners-up with a gross 75 were Di Gritt and Sarah Waugh from Tidworth. First nett prize was won by Sally Powell (Tidworth) and Pauline Hawkins (North Wilts).

Wiltshire Girls had a good away half with Dorset at Moors Valley on 9th Setember with Hannah Turland (Tidworth), Kyra Horlock(Hamptworth) and Sarah Carvell (Ogbourne) all winning their matches.

Emma Breen from Marlborough is Wiltshire's new County Girls Champion. Emma shot a gross 76 to win the title at West Wilts on 30 August. Wrag Barn's Carly Boulton was runner-up with a gross 78. Wiltshire Girls finished in third place in the Inter County Girls Championships held at Pennard GC in Glamorgan on 22 & 23 August. The team halved their matches with Gloucester and Monmouth but lost to winners, Glamorgan.

Tidworth's Jayne Long is the new Wiltshire County Champion after beating Portia Abbott 3 & 1 at Kingsdown Golf Club on 17 August. Claire Hobbs won the Hoare Salver, Barber Dish, Kennard Cup and Deacon Cup. Tidworth won the Team Shield. Steph Andreson won the Sybil Parsons Trophy. Bronze winner was Toni Cumming.

Wiltshire had a good half in their match against Hampshire at West Wilts GC. The team started strongly in the foursomes with very good wins for
Hannah Turland & Sophie Newman and Katie Dove-Meadows and Roxy Roberts. Wins in the singles from Katie and Alison Britten plus an excellent half from Sarah Carvell
secured the draw.

Ogbourne's Sophie Newman was Wiltshire's star player in the South West Championships held at Salisbury & South Wilts in July. Sophie finished runner-up in the second flight matchplay...after beating her mum on the way to the final! FULL RESULTS

At the South West Girls Championships at Knowle, Tidworth's Hannah Turland won both the nett salver and the Under 15 title for the second year running. Hannah played 6 over par over the 36 holes and reduced her handicap to 5. FULL RESULTS

Wiltshire Girls lost 5-2 to Hampshire at Basingstoke in a match that saw good wins from Emma Breen and Emma May and some girls playing their first County Match.

Wiltshire Girls and Wiltshire 2nd team have both won their first inter-county matches of the season. The girls team beat Somerset 4-2 at Kingsdown and the 2nd team had a tremendous 7.5 - 1.5 win over Monmouth at Ogbourne Downs.

Royal Porthcawl was the stunning backdrop for this years 4 Counties event. Perfect weather saw every team producing a high level of golf much enjoyed by the spectators. Once again Gloucester took First position but it all depended on the last afternoons results. Glamorgan came 2nd, Wiltshire came third after playing their hearts out against Gloucester and Glamorgan two very strong teams. FULL STORY

The County first team have a had a great start to the season, winning their warm-up match against Dorset and halving with Somerset. Trailing 2-4 after the morning foursomes against Dorset at Ashley Wood, the team won the afternoon matches 4.5 - 1.5 to take the honours.
