WILTSHIRE GIRLS HALVE THEIR FIRST MATCH OF THE SEASON

WILTSHIRE girls had an excellent half in their first County match of the season on 31st May, when they played Somerset at Orchardleigh.

Wiltshire Girls Captain, Claire Hobbs from Cumberwell Park, led the strong Wiltshire side out against Somerset's Polly Clark. Playing off 5 handicap, Claire had an excellent 3 & 2 win over the Somerset 10-handicapper.

JoJo Candy (12 handicap - Manor House, Castle Combe), Emma Breen (12 - Marlborough GC) and Emma May (13 - Kingsdown GC) all fought hard against Ella Nash (17), Karen Osmond (17) and Kim Stokes (28) respectively, with Jojo and Emma May taking their opponents to the 17th.

A strong performance by Ogbourne Downs' Sarah Carvell (17 handicap) to win 8 & 6 against Shannon Neal (31) pulled the game back to 3 - 2 with everything riding on the final game.

With one Somerset player having been called up for the Butch Harmon school, the final match was between Somerset's Hannah Rich (34) playing a stableford against the aggregate scores of the two Wiltshire players, Cumberwell's Gemma Painter (20) and Ogbourne's Sophie Newman (18). A brilliant under handicap round of 38 points by Gemma clinched the point for Wiltshire to draw the match 3 -3.

It was a terrific performance by the girls on a tough course.
