| Carly
Boulton from Wrag Barn Golf Club has won the Wiltshire Girls Championships
beating Claire Hobbs from Cumberwell Park in a three-hole play off. The
win gives 17-year old Carly a remarkable treble she won the Wiltshire
Ladies Championship at Ogbourne Downs on 18th August, just days after clinching
the Wrag Barn Ladies Championship.
Both Carly and Claire shot gross 78s in the County Girls Championship, which was held on Friday 26th August over the beautiful 18 holes at High Post Golf Club near Salisbury. In an exciting three-hole play-off, Carly sunk her putt on the final hole to make a birdie and win the play-off by one shot from Claire Hobbs, Wiltshires Junior Captain and Cumberwell Parks Ladies Champion.
A gross 79 from Jojo Candy of Manor House, Castle Combe won the under 18 gross prize. Under 13 champion was 11-year old Hannah Turland from Tidworth Garrison Golf Club who shot a gross 86 while the Under 15 gross prize was won with a gross 92 by Sophie Newman from Ogbourne Downs on countback from Nancy Pallas of Hamptworth Golf & Country Club.
The first nett prize was awarded to Emma Breen from Marlborough with a nett 75 on countback from 2nd nett winner, Emma May from Kingsdown Golf Club.
Sixteen girls from 10 clubs across Wiltshire took part in the Championships, four of them single-figure handicap golfers. The standard of golf was tremendous and showed the dramatic improvements that have taken place in girls golf over the past two years, said county junior organiser, Di Gritt.
Between them the girls have had their handicaps reduced by over 70 strokes in the past year! They are a real credit to their own coaches and to our County coach, John Jacobs of Cumberwell Park.
