YASMIN & JESSICA WIN FIRST GIRLS EVENT OF THE YEAR

Yasmin Broocks from Wrag Barn Golf Club and Jessica Isles from North Wilts GC, both 12 years old, were the winners of the first County Girls event of the year - a texas scramble held at High Post GC on 4 January.

Partnered by High Post's David Mallam and Kingsdown's Keith Farrow, the duo played the course just one over par to win on countback from High Post's Eleanor Parker and Yasmin Andrews from Salisbury & South Wilts.

Five teams braved the January weather for the fun event - the first of a packed girls golf programme which moves to North Wilts next month and to Wrag Barn in April.

"We'll be holding a number of Adult and Junior events this year as they are popular with girls and parents alike, but will also be running stableford events for girls with and without handicaps, to help girls get on course experience and improve their handicaps," said Girls County Competition Secretary, Sue Long, from North Wilts.

"The County girls events offer a great opportunity for girls across the county to meet and play golf together. We are so very grateful to all the clubs in Wiltshire for their ongoing support."

The girls will also be playing matches against Gloucester, Hampshire, Dorset, Somerset, Monmouth and Glamorgan this year and every girl who is a member of a Wiltshire club will be offered coaching when the programme gets underway in the spring.
