Farrow from Kingsdown Golf Club has won this year's Wiltshire Girls'
Championship held at Marlborough Golf Club on 27 August. A gross score
of 90 also won her the under-18 title. The new under-15 champion is
Freya Danks from West Wilts who shot 91, while Wrag Barn's Katie Warren
took the Under-13 title with the same score.
THIRD PLACE FOR WILTSHIRE GIRLS TEAM A win against Dorset, a half with Gloucester and a loss to eventual winners, Somerset at Mendip Springs meant our county girls squad finished the Inter County Girls in third place, just missing 2nd by a half a point.
"A very gutsy young team with bags of potential who I believe can
win," was the verdict from County Junior Organiser, Sue Long. The
Wiltshire Girls squad of Kyra Horlock (Hcap 3), Yasmin Broocks (9),
Ellena Farrow (10) - Captain, Katie Warren(9), Charlotte Lucas (12),
Jane Askey (20) reserve, who in fact played the last match for Katie
who was ill and won and Sarah Gee (15). HANNAH
JUST MISSES OUT AT County Champion, Hannah Turland was just one shot away from winning the Ladies' British Open Amateur Strokeplay Championship at Royal Aberdeen last week. The 15-year-old led the international field by three shots after the second round and went into the third day four shots clear of her nearest rival. However, two nightmare holes on the last nine of the final round gave Ireland's Danielle McVeigh the chance to overtake Hannah and win the title. Although very disappointed at the end result, Hannah felt that she played really well over the first three days. "Those two holes ruined everything - but I'll get over it", she said. Despite
not clinching the title, Hannah came away with the Holden Trophy (as Runner-up)
and also the Dinwiddy Trophy for the Best Under 18. Another fantastic
performance to add to her already impressive list of achievements so far
in her amateur golfing career, including, most recently, being unbeaten
in her matches for England at the Girls' Home Internationals in Lancashire
earlier this month. Hannah
