COUNTY SCRATCH KNOCK-OUT CUP 2009

The result of 2009 Scratch Knock-Out competition was a fairy-tale win for Salisbury & South Wilts. The team, captained by Jane Burt, won by three games to two in a very tense and exciting match against last year's winners, Tidworth Garrison, at the Wiltshire on 19 September.

The match was all square at two points each with the end result riding on the final pair. Going to the 18th tee all square, the finish could not have been closer - with Salisbury's Linda Scrace sinking a putt to win on the 18th green.

Jane and her team were amazed and delighted by their victory. "We never even expected to get to the final", Jane says, "so we were very relaxed about taking on Tidworth. We really had nothing to lose!"

The lowest handicap player in the winning team is off 12 - and Jane feels that the experience of playing matches off scratch in the League really encourages players to aspire to a higher level.

Tidworth's Ladies' Captain, Jill Whitney, admitted that they were disappointed not to win the Trophy again this year. "However", she said " I would like to congratulate Salisbury & South Wilts on a very fine win!"
